About the course: Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology at UCSI University
This Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology programme is designed to offer students a dynamic and engaging educational experience through a variety of teaching methods, learning approaches, and assessment strategies.
In addition to acquiring theoretical knowledge, students will gain practical skills in operating and maintaining scientific equipment, conducting basic research, and performing laboratory work. They will also learn how to analyze, synthesize, and integrate knowledge and information. As part of the programme, students are required to engage in extensive laboratory practicals and complete intensive research projects, both of which are essential for earning their master's degree.
Assessment plays a critical role in the learning journey. While there are formal summative assessments, the majority of evaluations involve continuous assessment throughout each subject. This continuous assessment includes assignments that encourage self-directed learning through oral presentations, written reports, case studies, critical analysis of published scientific data, mini-projects (both individual and team-based), seminars, and class discussions.
Students will be taught to leverage various instructional media and technologies, enabling them to tackle real-world challenges and opportunities in biotechnology. For example, through critical analysis of case studies and data interpretation exercises, students will learn to apply theoretical concepts to solve actual biotechnology problems. Additionally, they will develop essential communication, leadership, and teamwork skills needed for their future careers.
